We have bred pit bulls for several year. I have never registered with the Kennel club to become an actual "Breeder", was just considering doing so and weighing the pro's and con's. Is it really profitable to become a dog breeder? Can this be a full time career, or should it be just a way to earn an extra few dollars?
In thinking about this and being realisitic, I believe that it depends on your drive. Quantity of course leads to higher revenue, but that also means that you need several breedable females. Currently I have on breedable, and one that will be when she becomes of age...... This can safely result in two litters a year. Sometimes they come into heat more often, but over breeding can be dangerous to the dog.
The breed that you choose is huge factor in the profitability. Pit Bulls of course have a bad reputation due to left-leaning media bias and the actions of others. ie... Michael Vick. Other breeds are bound to be faster sellers. When selling a pit bull, a breeder must take precaution as to who the dog is going to live with. Making a judgement call is often the only line of defense breeders have.
The price of the dogs sold can vary. I currently sell the dogs I have for $150.00. For that amount, new owners receive a healthy puppy that has had their first set of shots and deworming by a vet. Vet paperwork is available. Dogs sold at this price are not registered. Though they can be through APBR. My male is ADBA registered and I have a young female that is as well. Litters born to these two will sell for much more.
With the time required to give the dogs the attention they deserve rather than keeping them in a pen solely for breeding purpose can be a factor in whether becoming a breeders is the right choice. Our dogs are big babies and are treated like one of the family. Becoming a high output breeder can mean less interaction with the dog. Interaction is VITAL with all breeds but especially pit bulls.
The cost of feeding the dogs must also be factored in. These dogs eat quite a bit of food. Of course if one was to become an actual breeder, all income and expenses associated with the dogs would help with deciding the profitablity. Accurate record keeping would show whether a profit or lost was occurring.

Get a Freelancer
A couple of months ago I was fortunate enough to run across Get a freelancer. This site offers multiple listings for possible freelance opportunites for people of nearly every specialty. I was hired by two people to write articles. The gig turned out to be great and I was paid as promised. There are no fees associated with signing up for GAF, but fees do apply if you are awarded a job. Money is deposited into you GAF account and can be withdrawn through a variety of methods.
My specialty is writing and I have found that the writing section of this site is very much overpopulated which has resulted in very low paying jobs. It seems that there are such a large number of writers that they tend to under-bid jobs just so they can say they won the bid.
The jobs that I won had a prices pre-specified for each article. This was a plus for me, as some of the writers bid only a few cents for lengthy articles. The great thing about this site is the vast category selection that is offered. GAF has work available for nearly any field imaginable.
My personal rating for GAF is a 6 out of 10. I don't like the fact that you must have $30.00 in your account before you can withdraw money, but I do like that there are so many withdrawal options available. I don't like that the market seems to be over populated with writers who provide semi-ok quality work but for only pennies.
This may be a great opportuntity for anyone who works at home and would like another avenue of earning. I like the layout of the site and the format. Being able to provide potential employers samples of your work and communicate with them via private messages is a definite plus in having the ability to showcase your work and explain why you are the best person for the job.
While this site has its pluses and its negatives, it is definitely worthwhile to check out what gigs are available. It could prove to be a profitable venture for anyone who works at home.
Anyone interested can sign up or just visit the site here:
